The Toadies: "Hell Below/ Stars Above"

After more than six long years since their last album, The Toadies have returned in fine style. By inserting the CD and pressing "play", you are met with a steady guitar riff, a scream, and pulsating drums (what good recording doesn't offer at least this?). Sticking to their distinct style and mixing punk with classic rock riffs, The Toadies have made another good album. Hell Below/Stars Above the Toadies shows a greater maturity than Rubberneck, which seemed to be an exorcise in amateurism and was a strong part of its gritty appeal. The 12-track album contains a mixture of classic Toadies hard-rock stylings such as "Push the Hand", "You'll Come Down", and "Hell Below/Stars Above". Mixed in are some slower, softer songs like "Pressed Against the Sky", and "Doll Skin". In conclusion, if you didn't enjoy the first album, you might want to give this one a try. It has been toned down a little. If you already consider yourself a Toadies fan you will undoubtedly love this album.
