Matchbox 20 emerged from the Florida band Tabitha’s Secret to become of the most successful bands of the ‘90s. Constant radio and television airtime, critical acclaim and solid pop-rock melodies all contributed to the band’s enduring popularity. Despite the influx of “one-album" bands throughout the decade, Matchbox 20 seems destined, thus far, to buck the trend.
Their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You introduced the band into the popular music world in 1997. Called “a remarkably sophisticated album from so young a band," the release marked a rarity in recent recordings: a definitive pop album laden with solid rock ‘n’ roll influences.
Yourself or Someone Like You placed on Top 40 charts around the world, largely thanks to the success of its premier single, “Push." Combining stellar lyrics with lead singer Rob Thomas’ unique voice, the album crossed genre stereotypes and the music collections of millions.

2000 started on a strong note for Thomas as his collaborative effort “Supernatural", the Carlos Santana superhit, earned awards and accolades for both Santana and Thomas.
The sophomore release from Matchbox 20, Mad Season By Matchbox Twenty was released in May 2000 with equal acclaim. The album continues to receive impressive airplay and proves the band’s defiance of a “flash-in-the-pan" label.
