Lynyrd Skynyrd: "One More From The Road" |
 |
The ultimate statement of Southern Rock in the mid 70's, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s, One More From the Road, defined the genre and earned southern rock and the band a place in the annals of music history and international fame. In the early 70's, Lynyrd Skynyrd was just another rock band struggling to make a name for itself. The band had released three albums that sold moderately well in the southern states of the U.S.A. but national exposure was still avoiding them.
In 1976, the band’s fourth album, Gimmie Back My Bullets, was released and with it the band started to reach a broader audience. Lynyrd Skynyrd was beginning to attract attention outside their Florida home turf so the band decided to tour to support the album. In early 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd hit the road for a very successful tour with coverage on national FM radio as well as opening slots on tour with the Who.
On July 7, 1976, three days after the American Bicentennial, the band landed in Atlanta, GA.,for concerts at the Fox Theatre. These concerts were make ups from those that were canceled in May when Gary Rossington broke his finger in an accident. The band had not been in Atlanta since they had been discovered and recorded their first lp there in 1973. At that time Lynyrd Skynyrd had won the hearts of the residents of Atlanta as they honed their skills at local drinking establishments. These concerts would be a sort of homecoming.
