K-Ci & JoJo, known as the two Hailey brothers before international fame, grew up in a close knit family surrounded by music in Charlotte, NC. Their career started with two friends from the church choir and they received a lot of local attention as a gospel quartet, known as Jodeci. They decided to test their wings and headed for New York, where an impromptu audition at Uptown/MCA Records resulted in a record deal.
Beginning in 1991, they had three hit albums that went double-platinum and beyond - Forever My Lady, Diary of a Mad Band and The Show, The Afterparty, The Hotel. Jodeci's global success was followed by a decision by K-Ci & JoJo to work as a duo. In June 1997 they released Love Always , which skyrocketed to the top of the charts and propelled them onto the world music stage. Two Grammy nominations and an American Music Award have proven what the fans thought all along - K-Ci & JoJo have what it takes.
Their success is due, in no small part, to the attitude they have towards their music, their fans and themselves. They enjoy working together and keeping the music real. They appreciate the fans and enjoy the feedback of the live performances. Their latest album, simply titled X, is a great showcase for their talents and brings to it the experience they've gained over the years.
How does the album break down? "Honest Lover" is very slow and sensual with a very distinctive beat. "Wanna Do You Right" gets down and funky - she's left him and he wants to get her back.

They take it really slow and mellow on "Get Back" - he's waiting for the phone to ring.
There's an intensity to "Crazy" - she's leaving and he's begging her to stay. "Game Face" relies on a variety of effects to produce an interesting sound. "Thug N U Thug N Me" picks it up with a rap style beat. Things slow down with "If It's Going to Work" - he wants to start over. "All The Things I Should Have Known" keeps it slow, easy and lonely - he should have been there and she wouldn't have left. "I Can't Find The Words" finds the sounds - vocals and instrumentals blend perfectly. "Something Inside Of Me" continues the soft sounds with great harmony. The beat stays soft but with a little more intensity on "One Last Time" - he still wants to try again. "Suicide" has an extremely haunting sound and theme - he's really desperate without her. They pick things up with "Ooh Yeah", which blends many sounds to finish off the album.
X will appeal to the fans of K-Ci & JoJo as it demonstrates their consistent commitment to their music. Overall, it presents a very deep, soulful sound that gives the listener a lot to think about.
