Peter Frampton: "Frampton Comes Alive" |
 |
Another of Universal's Deluxe Editions, Frampton Comes Alive holds the destinction of being the "best-selling live album of all time". This album , originally released in January 6, 1976, managed to secure a virtually unknown performer, Peter Frampton, a place in the annals of music history forever and make his name a household word.
Prior to the release of Frampton Comes Alive, Peter Frampton had tried his hand as a member of the British pop band the Herd, then with the boogie band Humble Pie. When he left Humble Pie in 1971, Frampton embarked on a solo career and formed Framptons Camel. Dropping the Camel moniker after only one album, Frampton continued under the name Frampton and released three further albums as a solo artist. The solo route proved to be less than successful and fame was still fleeting so Frampton took to the road in 1975 for a make it or break it tour. He took along with a recording crew to document this tour
and to capture the band live. The tour was a big success so Frampton decided to assemble an album to document the tour and satisfy fans who had gone to the shows.

The double album
proved to be his big break and the rest is history.
This Deluxe Edition of Frampton Comes Alive celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the original double LP album release. Expanded to include four extra tracks this lavishly packaged set has been remastered and remixed to reflect the actual sequence of the original concert sets. Three of the bonus tracks were from the original concert but the forth bonus track is from an unreleased radio performance by the same band line-up recorded just before the start of the tour in 1975.
Although there are nice additions to this set and the sound and packaging are exceptional, there is not really anything on this edition of the album that one would miss if they owned an earlier remasterd version. This Deluxe Edition of Frampton Comes Alive is essentially for hardcore fans or for a casual fan who has been waiting for the definitive version of this album to be released.
