Review: "Across The Water" Bernard Allison's talent and love of music were evident early on. Being the youngest of nine children of the late, legendary bluesman, Luther Allison, music was always a part of his life. He started playing guitar at the age of 10, and his first live performance was at the age of 13. As if having a famous father who joined him on stage wasn't inspiring enough, on his 16th birthday he got to jam with Stevie Ray Vaughan - how cool is that! After high school Bernard Allison played with "Koko Taylor's Blues Machine" for about three years. After that, he started his own group "Back Talk" and toured Canada. In 1989 he moved to Paris to join his father as his bandleader. He stayed in Paris until he got his first recording contract in 1992. Much of the appeal of his live performances comes from the rapport he enjoys with his audience. When Bernard Allison and his band play, everyone has a good time. He's currently touring in Europe and will return to the States in the spring. Across the Waters kicks off with the very uplifting sound of "The River's Rising". "Meet Me Half Way" brings it down just a bit with a great beat.

"Love is Free" slows it down with a really mellow, sensuous sound that flows like silk. Things get down and funky with "Coming Back (Across the Water)". "Change Your Way of Living" personifies the blues. "Feels Kinda Funny" has a distinctive beat. "Work it Out" and "There's No Higher Love" have a cool, easy sound. "I've Been Down" has an intensity and depth that provides a memorable finish to the CD. Across the Water is truly The Blues, but with a hint of funk, rock, gospel and jazz.
