After a lengthy absence, Toronto singer/songwriter Hayden has returned
with an intimate, low-key album. Recorded at home with friends,
Skyscraper National Park was originally released as a signed and numbered
limited edition, with a birch wood cover and handwritten liner notes. The
commercial release retains that homemade feeling with its simple artwork
on a cardboard sleeve.
Listening to this album makes you want to be alone. It's rainy day music,
quiet and thoughtful and introspective. The vivid imagery of "Dynamite

but the dynamite walls
contain us") takes you on a road trip to the mountains. "Bass Song"
appears to be the story of a simple break-in until the final line adds an
interesting twist.
"Carried Away", the most upbeat song on the album,
offers advice on ending a relationship ("Maybe you could tell him, that
from the day you met him, you've been liking him less and less").
From the musings of "Street Car" to the quiet simplicity of "Lullaby",
Skyscraper National Park is an exceptional piece of work. Get this album.
