The Stampeders: "Ballsy" |
 |
After the failure of “Platinum” and departure of Berly, Ronnie King tried to keep the band alive by recruiting some new band members .The new lineup included Ronnie's youngest brother, Roy Van Sprang (King) , Bob Allwood and Gary Storin. In 1979, two years after “Platinum”, the Stampeders 10th album, “Ballsy”, was released on Apex Records.
For this release, The Stampeders returned to their popular hard rock style of the mid 70's but it was too late. Despite being a rather good rock album, “Ballsy” would be the last album of original material by the Stampeders. The band had lost their immense fan base and music trends were changing, hard rock was out, new wave and punk bands were all the rage.

In 1980 with the departure of manager, Mel Shaw, a lack of sales, high recording and concert overheads and a declining fan base, the Stampeders decided to call it a day and broke up. Despite breaking up in 1980 the story of the Stampeders is far from over. The original three, King, Berly and Dodson would reunite in the 90's as a country act then The Stampeders would return to touring as a classic rock act and once more please fans with renditions of all of their hits!
This reissue of “Ballsy” by Unidisc Music Inc. features the original album graphics and superb sound although there are no bonus tracks.
