Murderecords/BMG
Sloan is definitely one of those bands that should be a lot bigger commercially than what they are. This Halifax born, Toronto bred band has been releasing critically acclaimed albums since the early 90's but for some reason they have not been able to break into the international spotlight.
Pretty Together, the band’s sixth studio album, is pop masterpiece that combines all of the elements of 1960's and 70's pop and rock with today’s lyrical sensibilities and 90's radio friendly hooks. The song writing on this album is split between the four band members, and with their different influences, there is something for everyone.
The band pulls out all of the stops and run the gambit between

Cheap Trick/Kiss influenced hard rock (Pick It Up And Dial), the mod sounds of the mid period Who (In The Movies) and the smooth Brit-pop harmonies of such bands as Oasis & The Verve (The Great Wall) and of course the obligatory Beatlesque/ Badfinger references (I Love A Long Goodbye & Are You Giving Me Back My Love?) . This album also sees the band experimenting with the use of acoustics, horns and electronics in places for that unique, 2000 feel to the music.

Fan Reviews:
The Rock group "Sloan", is pure rock-and-roll. They have somewhat of a classic sound, while maintaining a modern production quality. Several times on their new album"Pretty Together", they allude to the fact that despite current trends, Rock is definatly NOT dead. We agree. I am 35, and my daughter is 13. We both found the music to be both vivid, and alluring. As an avid listener of classic rock, I am sometimes discouraged by contemporary music, as it seems to lack much in the way of creativity. Bare Naked Ladies said recently that "it's all been done". While to a certain degree this is true, groups like Sloan, as well as B.N.L., continue to prove that music does'nt need to be mono-tonal to jam. We encourage anyone looking for "good music" to buy this album. (Young or old!)
